At Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop Parish – Rotorua, our Readers (Lectors) have the blessed role of proclaiming the Word of God at Mass. Rooted in our parish values — Aroha (Love), Ora (Live), Ārahi (Lead) — this ministry helps our community hear, understand, and live the Scriptures.

What Readers Do

• Proclaim the First and Second Readings

• Read the Psalm (if not sung), Introduction, and Prayers of the Faithful when needed

• Support the liturgy with clear and prayerful proclamation

• Arrive early to prepare, review the readings, and check microphones

Why This Ministry Matters

Readers become the living voice of God’s Word, helping open hearts to Christ. It is a ministry of faith, service, and leadership within our parish whānau.

Rosters

• Monthly rosters are emailed and posted on the parish noticeboard and website

• If unavailable, readers may swap with another person and inform the coordinator
